Improvements

Fisherman Accounting

NS-12905 - Improved performance and added date filter default for Fisherman Transactions History inquiry

NorthScope has a great feature for saving Search Options and automatically refreshing Inquiries with those pre-saved options. That’s great once you’ve set it up, but what about using an inquiry for the first time? Obviously, there won’t be any previously saved Search Options yet, but shouldn’t the inquiry have some helpful defaults to get you started? We updated the Fisherman Transaction History Inquiry to have a default Date Range Filter Option. While we were there, we optimized the inquiry’s code, so it refreshes even faster.

Purchasing

NS-12828 - Added multi-currency features to the Vendor Aging report

The Purchasing functional area has had multi-currency support since time immemorial, or at least since 2023, but NorthScope’s stock Vendor Aging report was only showing transaction amounts in the transaction’s currency. We’ve added the ability to toggle between showing transaction amounts in the transaction's currency and the home currency.

NS-12828 - Improved Performance of Check Detail inquiry

Do you know that feeling when you wake up and something’s not quite right? There’s nothing particularly wrong, per-se, but you’re definitely not 100%. We took a thorough look at the Check Detail Inquiry and made a few adjustments that made it work quite a lot quicker.

Bugs

Fisherman Accounting

NS-13044 - Removed incorrect Void & Correct option from Fisherman Payment Receipt Void screen

What can we say, the Void & Correct option shouldn’t be present when using the Fisherman Payment Receipt Void screen, so we’ve removed it.

Financial

NS-11954 - Resolved display and filter issues on Checkbook Transaction inquiry

It doesn’t make any sense that ACH Transactions show up in the Checkbook Register Inquiry but not show up in the Checkbook Transaction Inquiry. It also doesn’t make sense that the Checkbook Transaction Inquiry has a validation message that referred to the GL Date when the inquiry was executed with a Date Option of GL Period. We fixed those issues so everything makes cents now.

NS-13052 - Corrected Currency Exchange validation on Journal Entry

NorthScope has lots of validations built in that help guard against incorrect data getting saved in the system and even more validations geared to prevent bad numbers from being posted to the General Ledger. These sorts of validations are, on balance, very helpful but sometimes they are a little overzealous and stop the posting process when they don’t need to. We found and fixed an issue where a multi-currency validation message was preventing posting in a single-currency company because the number of decimal places of a computed amount did not match what NorthScope thought it should.

Framework

NS-12045 - Corrected glitch allowing newly added grid rows to ignore editable rules

New grid rows aren’t special in NorthScope. The rules apply to them just as much as the apply to rows that have been in the grid for a million years, although if NorthScope had data that was a million years old, they would be pretty darn special. We found and fixed a problem where the visibility and editability rules for fields on a brand-new grid row were not being applied until the row was saved. This actually has a practical application in the Sales Order record view, where it had been possible to key a Units quantity for a Weight-only tracked item.

NS-13245 - Attribute grid columns can now be filtered

NorthScope has a couple of really neat features: the ability to add additional columns to a grid for things like Attributes and Certifications, and the ability to filter any column in almost any grid. We found and fixed an issue that was preventing column filtering from working for those additional columns so now any column in the grid can be filtered (or sorted or grouped, for that matter) to heart’s content.

Logistics

NS-12644 & NS-13023 - Fixed Freight Amount not computing correctly

Your shipment has a long journey ahead, through multiple waypoints and couriers. NorthScope features the ability to record Freight Handling amounts for each leg of a shipment, but there was a bug that was preventing the amounts from being recorded correctly on the Journal Entry when the Rate Type was set to $/UOM – Net Wt or $/UOM – Gross Wt. While we were having fun fixing that problem, we also dispensed with a glitch that would cause the Freight Amount column on the Sales Order Shipments tab to show as zero dollars if the shipment Freight UOM was set to a UOM that was not automatically installed by NorthScope.

Inventory

NS-6730 - Resolved problem preventing Hold Codes for Newly Produced, Received, or Returned Lots from functioning as expected

Your quality team requires that all product returns must be checked over before they can be resold or transferred to another site. We fixed a problem with automatic lot hold that was preventing returned inventory from being placed on hold. We also fixed a similar problem that was preventing newly produced or received inventory from automatically going on hold. Your quality team will be almost as ecstatic as our team was at fixing this longstanding problem.

NS-12856 - The Visible to WMS Item Property can now correctly set when using Item Copy and Mass Update

The Item Copy and Mass Update tools are incredibly useful for managing large numbers of inventory item master files, with the ability to quickly clone an existing item or change a property on dozens or hundreds of items in seconds. We excised a bug that was preventing the “Visible to WMS” property from being correctly set by the Item Copy and Mass Update features.

Sales

NS-11820 & NS-11841 - Fixed unexpected Order and Allocation Quantity values when using Find Lots to add or allocate the same item multiple times

This release is all about fixing bugs, predominantly the longstanding ones. We fixed a particularly obtuse issue that caused incorrect ordered quantities when adding the same item to an order multiple times, but only when the item was added using the Find Lots screen’s “Add as New Item” toolbar button. We thought that was a fun bug to fix, so while we had the hood popped open, we also fixed an issue where allocating multiple instances of the same Item with inventory from the same Lot would cause a error message to erroneously be displayed.

NS-12274 - The Sales Order Item and Lot database table schema was cleaned up for existing installations

We’ve said over and over that NorthScope is a living, breathing application. Sometimes in all that living and breathing, NorthScope gets a little uncoordinated and awkward. Other times, it loses track of how a database table should be laid out. We sat NorthScope down and reminded it that it doesn’t need to track Sites at the Order Item-level anymore, but does need to keep note of the Total Freight at the Order Item Lot-level.

NS-12780 - Customer Address master file now allows saving Email Addresses up to 1000 characters

NorthScope supports recording up to 1000 characters for an email address associated with a Customer Address. We fixed a problem that was causing the email address field to be truncated at only 100 characters and also made sure to limit it to only 1000 characters. We were unable to find a way of describing this change in an engaging or funny way, however.

NS-12876 - Fixed issue preventing Sales Orders shipped via Load Management Load from fully posting

Loads in NorthScope’s Load Management are like Sales Order Shipment’s cool older brother. They’re very similar in a lot of ways, but can do a few tricks their younger counterpart can’t. We found and fixed a couple issues in Load Management Loads that we wanted to tell you about: a validation message was preventing the posting of a Sales Order that had been successfully shipped on a Load Management Load and a separate issue that was also preventing posting of a Sales Order, also shipped via a Load Management Load, unless the user clicked on the Sales Order Record’s Shipments tab before saving the Order Status as Ready to Post.

NS-12994 - Prevented a divide by zero error from occurring when keying a Sales Order for a customer with a zero dollar credit limit

Sometimes we have customers that, for one reason or another, need to be configured with a zero dollar credit limit and NorthScope provides two easy ways to make this configuration. We fixed an issue where, if you configured your customer with a Specific Credit Limit and set that Credit Limit Amount to $0.00, the Sales Order Record would fail to load due to a divide by zero error. Your Release Notes author’s elementary school mathematics teacher would be very proud to know that NorthScope doesn’t think dividing by zero is something that should be possible but really annoyed if they tried to key a Sales Order and saw that error message in the first place.

NS-13036 - Resolved an inaccurate Duplicate Invoice Number validation message

NorthScope does its best to prevent duplicate document numbers throughout the system, including within Sales Transactions because everything gets really confusing really quickly if we allow duplicate Invoice Numbers. We were a bit overzealous on those duplicate document number validations, though, when it came to Invoices generated in separate NorthScope companies within a single NorthScope installation. We’ve relaxed the validation so it allows invoices created in separate NorthScope companies to have the same Invoice Number.

NS-13036 - Fixed hyperlink to Price List record from the Price List History inquiry

As part of Price List's recent upgrade to the NorthScope 3 user interface framework, the address for the Price List record in NorthScope changed. Change of address notifications were sent out but not everyone got the memo. We fixed a problem where the link on the Price List History inquiry was not updated to the new Price List Record's address.

System

NS-13085 - Fixed incorrect spelling of Forty on printed documents

There are a few places in NorthScope, most notably printed Checks, where numeric values are shown as full English words. 42 might be the answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything but it doesn’t take a supercomputer to run spell check, which we should have done before spelling the word “Forty” as “Fourty”. In our defense, “Fourty” was an acceptable spelling, at least until about 1600. $42.00 will now be correctly spelled as “Forty-two & 00/100” on checks.
