Many of the inquiries in the NorthScope™ 3.0 Framework utilize the ‘Search’ option text box. This guide will explain how to use reserved keywords and search operators to return the desired data within NorthScope.

Additionally, one change to the inquiries in the NorthScope™ 3.0 Framework is that we are encouraging users to specify search options prior to clicking the Refresh button to narrow down the search results. Though not required, the more information we have to filter on, the faster the inquiry will run and the more relevant the returned results will be. A win-win.

Inventory Inquiries

Keywords available for use in the ‘Search’ text box:

  • Attr (search Attribute values and not Attribute Names)

  • Batch (search Production Batch)

  • Item (search Item ID and Description)

  • Owner (search Lot Owner)

  • Site (search Site ID and Site Name)

  • WLot (search the Warehouse Lot ID)

Using the colon: In the ‘Search’ text box, use any of the keywords listed above followed by a colon to return specific search results. For example, “Item: Salmon” will return all items where the Item ID or Item Description contains the word “Salmon”.

💡 Because the colon is a reserved search operator, users will be unable to search for any text that precedes the colon in the ‘Search’ text box. To find items containing the text “RM: 110 Pacific Cod”, enter “RM 110 Pacific Cod” (without the colon).

Using the comma: To search by more than one criteria in the ‘Search’ text box, users may use a comma between keywords. The comma signifies the word “and”. For example, “Batch: K19-229, WLot: 410” will filter results where the Production Batch contains “K19-229” AND Warehouse Lot contains “410”.

However, users may not search multiple values using the same keyword. For example, entering “Item: 110, 410” or “Item: 110, Item: 410” will not yield any results.

Using multiple search words for the same keyword: It is possible to enter multiple words to search on the same keyword. When multiple words are entered in the ‘Search’ text box, all words need to match. Entering “Item: Pacific Cod Frozen” will find all Item IDs and Item Descriptions where the words “Pacific” and “Cod” and ”Frozen” all exist. In this case, “Pacific Cod Frozen Mixed H&G 70# Case” would be found, but “Pacific Cod Fresh Mixed H&G 70# Case“ would not be found. Similarly, entering “Item: Frozen 6-8oz” would not return results if the Item description is “Arrowtooth Flounder Frozen 6-8 oz Fillets“ since the search word “6-8oz” was entered as one search word without spaces. Additionally, NorthScope has the ability to search in reverse order. Following the earlier examples, the same search results will be returned for “Item: Frozen Cod Pacific” and “Item: Cod Pacific Frozen”, or “Item: 6-8 oz Flounder” and “Item: Flounder 6-8 oz”.

💡 The ‘Search’ text box is not case sensitive. Both “salmon” and “Salmon” will return the same results in the grid.

Practical ways to use keywords in the ‘Search’ text box:

  • Find items containing a specific Item ID or Item Description: “Item: 410” or “Item: Frozen”

  • Find an item balance for a specific Site and Warehouse Lot: “Site: Bellingham, WLot: 410”

  • Find a Item/Lot/Transaction containing specific Attribute Values (All items where the ‘Case Size’ attribute is 70# Case): “Attr: 70# Cases”

  • Find items with Attribute Values containing multiple words (All items where the ‘Packaging Size’ attribute is 4” x 6”: “Attr: 4 x 6” or “Attr: 6 x 4” will both return the same results

  • Find items at a specific site: “Site: Commercial Cold Storage” and “Site: Cold Storage Commercial” will both return the same results

Sales Inquiries

The Billing Inquiry has also been updated as part of the NorthScope™ 3.0 Framework. The Customer text box filter is new and designed to be used to narrow down the search results. Entering “Food” will find customer names containing the word “Food”. In this case, both “Whole Foods” and “Food Distributors” would be returned in the search results.
